For the next 4 months, people travelling along Coronation Drive or alternative routes will face up to 50 minutes delay during the peak period.  Why?  To build yet another bridge in the city area that really won’t go anywhere.

That aside, what is the alternative for people who do not want to sit for 50 minutes in traffic?  Seek alternative routes?  What alternative routes?  Take annual leave?  If only we had 4 months annual leave owing to us!  Leave earlier/later?  Will it make that much of a difference?

We’ve heard that there will be extra buses between Indooroopilly and the city.  Great!  You don’t have to sit at the wheel for 50 minutes.  You can sit on a bus and read a book instead!

What about trains?  There’s a perfectly good train line running right between Coronation Drive and Milton Road that takes just 15 minutes between Indooroopilly and the City.

Ask anyone who travels on the Ipswich train line, and you’ll find out that trains are already full to capacity.  No wonder people won’t use them as an alternative.

Queensland Rail has received a number of new trains in the last few months.  So where are the extra services to cater for the mess on Coronation Drive?  Where is the so-called "coordination" and "integration" from the TransLink Transit Authority?  Why has it been left up to one service provider to try to alleviate some of the burden?

It is time the TTA started doing what it is there for – rather than produce a load of marketing spin to make it look like they’re doing something while the average commuter still suffers.

Update: The TTA announced today (Monday) that an additional train service will be added to both the morning and evening peak periods starting from Wednesday.  While this is a welcome move, it should have been decided and announced ages ago - with the services starting today.  Also, one extra service will have little impact - with regular services already overcrowded.
